Glendalough gets its name from the Irish language. Gleann dá locha literally means the ‘Glen of the two lakes’. Situated right in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park, Glendalough is one of the most visited locations in Ireland, with over 1 million visitors a year.

I hope that by visiting this site, you will come to appreciate that a visit here isn’t something you should just “squeeze in” after you have visited Dublin. I live not too far away from Glendalough along the east coast, in the town of Wicklow and never tire of visiting Glendalough. Glendalough and County Wicklow have so much more to offer that it would be a shame if you were to miss out due to lack of time.

If you have any questions or need advice on your visit to Glendalough and County Wicklow, please use the forum.

And finally, the wonderful photograph you see in the Header Image of this site was taken by David Heffernan at the Upper Lake in Glendalough in November 2006. Check out David’s Flickr page to view more of his photographs.

Enjoy your visit.
