Several online news reports today say that the couple rescued from the Macgillicudy Reeks mountain range last night were from Wicklow.

The man and woman raised the alarm on Sunday afternoon when they had lost their way.

Members of the Kerry Mountain rescue team then lost contact with the couple as they had moved into an area with no mobile phone coverage. The rescue team finally located the couple in good health at 11.30pm Sunday night.

Temperatures on the mountain had fallen to freezing and thankfully the story has a happy ending.
