Sex in the City star bound for Wicklow

KimCattrallStar of Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall is due in Ireland later this month to begin filming Tiger’s Tale alongside Brendan Gleeson. This thriller tells the story of a Dubliner pursued by a murderous copy of himself. It starts shooting on March 20th in Dublin and Wicklow.

The film will be produced by John Boorman who resides in County Wicklow. The €10 million film will be shown in Irish cinemas early next year. The cast also includes Brenda Fricker and Ciaran Hinds who starred in the BBC television series, Rome.

County Wicklow is a popular location for film and television production due to it’s proximity to Dublin, the natural landscape and of course, Ardmore Studios in Bray. Another incentive to film in Ireland are the generous tax incentives.

Down through the years Wicklow has been host to many productions such as Braveheart, Michael Collins, Ballykissangel, Angela’s Ashes, Reign of Fire and many more. Visitors to County Wicklow should be aware that there is a Film Trail which is a driving tour with stops at the location of many of these films.

Budding film stars might be interested to know that there is an open audition for extras for another film which begins filming in Wicklow Town soon. It is called “Becoming Jane” and stars Julie Walters and Maggie Smith. The open auditions take place on Wednesday 8th March from 4pm to 8pm in the Grand Hotel.
