Russborough House in Blessington is to receive €531,000 as part of government funding to preserve and protect built heritage.

A package of €18m was announced by the Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche.

Russborough House is one of the grandest houses in Ireland open to the public. The house was raided by the IRA in 1974 who stole some of the best paintings. All the paintings were recovered but another raid in 1986 was more successful and only one painting was recovered.

Russborough is open at the following times

April, October: Sundays and Bank Holidays - 10.30am - 5.30pm
June, July, August: Every day - 10.30am - 5.30pm
May, September: Monday to Saturday - 10.30am - 2.30pm
