Wicklow Mountains National Park new land acquisition announced

The Wicklow Mountains National Park is to increase in size by some 1,602 acres. This is the approximately the same area as the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
The total area of the National Park is now 17,650 hectares. The annoucement of the land acquisition was made by Mr. Dick Roche, minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local government.
The purchase of this land links two previously separated blocks of the park. It now provides for a continuous area of National Park land along the spine of the Wicklow Mountains from the Feather Beds on the Dublin Border to Baravore, just short of Lugnaquilla Mountain.
