Welsh rowers plan Irish Sea crossing to Wicklow Head

A team of rowers from North Wales is planning to row across the Irish Sea in a Celtic Longboat. The team, consisting of three men and two women will set off from Porth Oer, near Aberdaron, to Wicklow Head.

The crew will be rowing a 24 foor Celtic longboat designed and manufactured in Pembrokshire.

The challenge is being called ‘The 6’ challenge’. The timer will start once the crew leave Wales and will end once they cross the 6’ meridian west line that runs right through the end of Wicklow Head.

Two support vessels from Wales will follow the longboat on the trip, which is scheduled for the first weekend in May. The crossing will only be attempted if a suitable weather window is forecast for that weekend. If not, the team will re-schedule for the following weekend.
