Greystones parish is set to become the first Justice Parish in Europe after parishioners agreed to make regular financial contributions to Third World countries. The parish has asked its parishioners to become the first parish in Europe to be designated as a Justice Parish, making regular financial contributions to third world countries.
The project, (called Two Coats) which is inspired by the Gospel of St Luke - “Anyone with two coats must share with their brother and sister who has none” (Luke 3:11), was launched by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin. The initiative also has the support of President Mary McAleese, will call on parishioners to double their envelope and standing order collections, funds from which will then be distributed to projects throughout the world.
Fr David Halpin, C.C. Greystones, said “As a parish, we currently spend all the money that comes into the parish on the parish itself. The goal is to see us as one parish in a worldwide family of parishes, giving income to parishes and projects throughout the world that are in great need.” “What we are doing is trying to bring about a change of view, a change of mind to get us all to have a vision close that of Jesus himself.”
