Illegal dumping charge firm clears €6m profit
The Sunday Business Post reports today that:
“A waste management company controlled by Dublin businessman Tony Dean, who has been charged with illegal dumping in Wicklow, made a pre-tax profit of more than €6 million last year.
Turnover at Dean Waste, which trades as A1 Waste, increased by more than 15 per cent to €27million in the financial year to the end of July 2005, according to accounts just filed. A1 Waste is one of the largest waste management companies in the country.”
The report continues..
“In 2004, Dean and five other individuals connected to A1 Waste and another company, Dublin Waste, were charged with dumping without a licence.
The charges relate to a 48-acre disused quarry in Whitestown, near Baltinglass in west Wicklow. It was one of the largest illegal dumps to be uncovered in Ireland.
Wicklow County Council and gardai from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation began investigating the site four years ago.
The case is due to be heard shortly.”
