Getting to know Luan Parle, Singer and Songwriter

LuanArticle

25 year old Luan Parle is a singer and songwriter from Wicklow who is about to release her debut album “Free” on the SonyBMG label.

Luan’s musical story began when she was signed at only 12 years of age and was booked to appear on the Late Late Show. She was greatly tipped as a new country star. Luan’s first album ‘First Impressions’ could have taken her all the way to Nashville but her parents were very clear that education came first and Luan concentrated on songwriting and performing.

The new album is out on 20th October and shows Sony’s absolute commitment to Luan with this being her second recording contract with them after signing at just 20 years of age.

Luan has worked with Diane Warren, Billy Steinberg, Stephen Lironi and Bill Bottrell. She has also toured with Elton John appearing at the Hammersmith Appolo and two tours with James Blunt who says that “Luan was great fun to have out on the road with us; she has a fantastic voice and great songs to go with it.”

1. Your album ‘Free’ is out on October 20th. Take us through the process you go through to release an album?

That’s a difficult question to answer, as there is no particular ‘process’, it’s different for everybody, and also I don’t like to use the word process with regards to making music. For most singer songwriters it’s about writing good songs with a good catchy hook and hope that when you deliver them to the record company they love them enough to release them.

2. What is your favourite song from the album and why?

It’s hard to choose one song as I love them all, and each has their own meaning to me. A song that is very special to me is ‘Song For You’. I wrote it about a family member who was ill.

3. What part of making music gets you most discouraged and what part gets your most excited?

Well what gets me most excited about music IS making music, creating songs, and then playing them live to an audience. What gets me most discouraged would probably have to be trying to make them sound commercial.

4. What moment of your musical career to date do you treasure the most?

I’m still waiting for it, so I’ll let you know when it happens.

5. What tracks are wearing out the circuits of your iPod at the moment?

It has to be Bruce Springsteen ‘We Shall Overcome’ ‘The Seger Sessions’; it’s just an amazing album.

6. Do Irish radio stations do enough to promote Irish talent?

Let’s hope so….

7. What do you think of the reality TV shows like the X-Factor where stardom is created literally in a matter of months?

Have a listen to my new single ‘Corporate Culture’ out October 13th and you will know exactly what I think.

8. Complete this sentence…I wish more people would listen to the music of….

Dave Browne, an amazing Irish songwriter.

9. If you were to pick just one song (either one of your own or someone elses) to be the soundtrack of your life, what would that song be?

Well without doubt it has to be Eva Cassidy’s version of ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’.

10. I like being me because…

I can never be anybody else.
