McManus Raises Concerns over Greystones Marina Planning

Labour Party TD for Wicklow, Liz McManus has written to An Bord Pleanala to express her concerns over then planning process relating to the plans for a mixed development at Greystones Harbour.

Deputy McManus said: “This development has been the subject of much public concern. Thousands of local residents petitioned An Bord Pleanála to express their opposition to the scale and impacts of the proposal.

“An Bord Pleanála sought further information and made a number of recommendations regarding changes to the plan. As a result Wicklow County Council submitted significantly revised plans for the development. However because these plans were submitted in response to a request for further information, there is no obligation on the Board to make the information public or to re-open the oral hearing.

“This is unfair because the proposal represents a new application which:

*In no significant way addresses the majority of the objections raised by the community.
*Includes new feature which may serve to make it even more unacceptable than the last proposal.

“I want the proposals be put on public display. The public should be given ample time to comment on them. In addition the oral hearing should be re-opened. It would be an important confidence building measure in relation to a major development which should be subject to full public scrutiny.”

One Response to “McManus Raises Concerns over Greystones Marina Planning”

  1. I fully agree.
The 6,000+ genuine objectors deserve some consideration & democratic involvement (scrutiny of the plans).
Their currently elected local FF public representative says that he is unable to represent their views - his ministerial position (as Minister for the Environment) prevents him from representing his electorate’s views !!!
FG appear to support the development.
Only Labour & The Green Party seem to be standing with the 6,000+ objectors, the residents, the planning experts, & natural justice, to defend Wicklow’s beaches, coastline and democracy ! Thank you Liz McManus & Dierdre de Burca.

Standing against the views of the people are the private developers and the 2 biggest parties.

Lets ensure all TDs see the consequences in the upcoming general election.
