€250m resort planned for Humewood Castle

The property development company Lalco, is planning a €250 million re-development of Humewood Castle. The property is located near Kiltegan and is on 450 acres. Lalco purchased the property for €25million in 2006.

The company has applied to Wicklow County Council for permission to restore the 19th century castle and build a 120 bed hotel next to it. In addition to this, Lalco is also looking to build lodges in the estate grounds, creating what it calls “an integrated tourist destination”.

The work will take 3 years to comple and create 500 building jobs during the construction phaes. An 18 hole golf course is also planned along with an indoor golf facility and driving range. Tennis and other outdoor pursuits will also be catered for.

Lalco will keep ownership of the estate but is in talks with international hotel chains who are seeking to manage the property.
