2 Firemen killed in Bray
Tragic news this evening from Bray. 46 year old Brian Murray and 26 year old Mark O’Shaughnessy died when the roof of a building collapsed on them while they tried to contain a fire.
President Mary McAleese described the two part time fire fighters as “heroes who had made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety of others.”
Deputy Liz McManus said:
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of the two men who last act was to protect the community by tending to the fire in the disused factory on Little Bray. I share the deep shock with the community in Bray and my heartfelt sympathies and thoughts are with the Murray and O’Shaughnessy families. We are very grateful to the people of the fire service in Bray who have lost comrades today.”

Much saddened by this news. I have been friends with the O’ Shaughnessy family since Mark was a young child. Maire O’ Shaughnessy used to make my vogue, simplicity, and style dresses when I was a young woman. Naimh became a close friend at this time and made the roses on my hand tailored wedding dress.
Mark and Eamonn were school children at the time and were pleasant, polite boys. It does not surprise me that Mark has lost his life defending others. Marie, Naimh and the two O’shaughnessy boys were the best of what Ireland has to offer.
I wish the living members of that family my sincere sympathies at this tragic time. I continue to offer my support and friendship to Naimh and hope that my friends in Ireland, especially Kim Clarke another single Mother who has offered great support to Niamh will be able to continue to offer Naimh a shoulder to lean on.
Much love Naimh. Remember you are born to be great.
Your loyal friend,
Carrie Ann
