Public meeting about loss of public walks on Wicklow coastline
A meeting will take place on Tuesday 4th March 2008 in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow Town as the poster indicates below.
The Murrough itself is disintegrating and needs serious work to combat erosion. This work will have to take place at some point as eventually the erosion (if it is not halted) will encroach on the railway line. So it’s no longer just a matter of protecting the coastline as a public amenity. It needs to be protected to ensure a piece of national infrastructure is not compromised. The walk along the Black Castle to Wicklow Head is another area of concern and could be sold as a tourist attraction, being the most easterly point in the Republic of Ireland mainland. As it stands today, the walk is unsafe and part is closed off but with a bit of money and work it could easily become a selling point for the town.
