Glenroe due for a comeback on Irish Television?

RTE 2FM’s Rick O’Shea reports that a group of fans of the axed television series Glenroe staged a demonstration this evening to highlight their wish to have the drama back on TV screens.

The end of Glenroe (filmed in County Wicklow) was announced back in 2001 and was an unpopular decision as the series was consistently in the top 10 rated shows on RTE. Indeed, looking at the current TV ratings on Aertel, Glenroe certainly would certainly have come very close to the Number 10 slot occupied by Eastenders.

In the UK, Emmerdale Farm was seen as being too rural and so the producers revamped the series, killed off loads of old characters and renamed it Emmerdale and they haven’t looked back since. The same thing could have been done for Glenroe but there obviously wasn’t any appetite for it in RTE at the time.

So maybe it is time that Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow once again played host to the comings and goings of Biddy and Miley and all the gang.
