Wicklow County Council resubmits plans for Greystones Harbour

GreystonesRevision

Extract of Press Release from Wicklow Council on modified plan for Greystones Harbour

“Wicklow County Council and Sispar have proposed the construction of a dramatic new public square on the waterfront at Greystones. The square will be a focal point for the town of Greystones at the very heart of the old harbour area.

The square is the most fundamental change to the masterplan for the re-development of Greystones Harbour. It was recognised that the town needed a space of significant stature to cater for the rapidly expanding population of the seaside town and surrounding area.

The square will be a major amenity resource for the people of Greystones and will integrate the waterfront and harbour, the existing town and the new community, residential and commercial facilities. It will form a striking gateway to the town on approaches by land and water.

The new square is the centrepiece of the additional information and revised proposals submitted to An Bord Pleanala to support the application for approval of the re-development of Greystones Harbour.”

  1. It ’s very bad form that the developers “artist’s” impression is aht is being used to promote the Marina.

It is cleary a total misrepresentation and with it’s wide angle, you’d imagine that all that is being built is a park! There are 6 apartments shown…out of 341!! But then, hte only way mthis could look any way acceptable is by misrepresentation and media manipulation.

Wicklow County Council’s own website show the reality with links to the planning application.

  2. I think the harbour should be built its great!!!!!!!!!!!!
the harbour is now a rundown littered piece of erodeing rubble.
we should be thanking the council!
and all the people that own boats or that are members of the sailing club should be jumping around.
basically anyone who dislikes the new harbour should just give it up its a state.

  3. I think that the harbor is a splendid little get away for all people. It’s beautiful and possess charm, which should NOT be destroyed. It hurts me so to see it destroyed and rebuild into a tourist attraction. The most ironic part of the reconstruction is the fact that the tourists come for the mere country, little sea town feel instead of the harsh touristy coast getaway. This simple fact should be considered.

    Thank you,

  4. I think it’s a disgrace. It totally changes what is and always has been one of the most beautiful small harbour villages in Wicklow. It erases it for ever. A better harbour can be built and a better marina can be built without totally obliterating the current landscape.

  5. Ideally, we would only be redeveloping the harbour, and perhaps adding in a little marina. Wouldnt that be great. But Sarah, and all the others who believe it is that simple, who is going to pay? The CC wont fully fund it, neither will the people apparently, so the developer must, by selling property. Yes, the harbour is sweet, but i come back to greystones once every few months (I grew uo there) and now all I see is a load of rubble and a harbour that is falling appart.
