Make a comment on this post and I give €1 to Irish Cancer Society - The “Is there anyone out there” post

This news blog has been running since February 2006 and I have reached a point that all bloggers reach at some stage and ask the question ‘is anyone reading this?’ – See, the website statistics tell a healthy story – plenty of hits/visitors etc. But that doesn’t really tell me if, when I click to publish an article, anyone really reads it.

For example, posts have been a little erratic lately due to time constraints and the podcast hasn’t been issued for a few weeks now, and yet, I’ve not had anyone email to say “hey, why are there no updates on the site lately”. I’ve just sent out a batch of emails to potential interviewees for the Getting to Know feature and plan to publish those as and when they are complete – I also plan a new article feature is totally unique to any website or blog that I know of. I’m really looking forward to doing this new feature, but then I am hit by doubts as to whether or not it will even be read.

So, basically I would just like to throw caution to the wind here and make a little plea that if you are a regular visitor to this blog to make a comment on this post. In return for you taking the time to do this I will add €1 to my sponsorship form the upcoming Wicklow Summer Family Walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. The more people that comment, the more I add to the sponsorship form. I will have sponsors of my own on it as well of course, this will be a “top up” by myself. It’s such a worthy cause.

As a “quid pro quo” in return for making the donation, your comment must have the following

Name (first name is fine), Location, Your interest in Wicklow (living in, working in, family from etc), What improvements and changes you would like to this blog, your favourite place in all of Wicklow (could be a scenic spot, a restaurant, pub, street – whatever)

Then add any other additional comment you want.

So that’s it then. Make a comment, €1 goes onto the sponsorship form for the Wicklow Summer Family Walk in aid of The Irish Cancer Society.

Best Regards,

Alan O’Flaherty

  1. I live in Bray and follow this blog (and a couple of hundred others) via bloglines mainly. I think you’re doing fine as things are, so no particular suggestions for improvements or changes. Maybe the odd photo featuring various parts of the county would be nice, if possible.. My favourite place is home, but if that doesn’t count, then it’s either the Harbour Bar or Premier Arts & Craft Store in Bray.

Keep up the good work =)

  2. Thanks Stella!

  3. Hi Alan!

I drop in as often as I can, not as often as I like. At the moment, I don’t see a lot of the people I live with, nor of my friends, so your blog is up there (or down there?!) among my favourite people. I think for a lot of people, life is a bit like that at the moment. We don’t get time to say we appreciate someone or something until they grab us by the throat and threaten to leave! I was amazed to read comments from people I hadn’t ever met or hadn’t met for years in response to your Getting to Know You piece - so it’s obviously widely read. So don’t get disheartened, and don’t dream of giving up. It’s a great site and a credit to our county!

I live in, work in, am from Bray, and I love this town and this county, despite (maybe even more because of) its neglect by politicians and civil serveants. My favourite place in all of Wicklow (apart from my home, as Stello says!) is Glendalough. It’s a magical, peaceful, prayerful place.

The only improvement I would make to the site is one that I think you may have already carried out - changed host! I’ll be doing the same myself shortly, and thanks for your recommendations and support in that regard.

As Stello says, keep up the good work :-)

    Regards,
    noeleen

  4. Thanks Noeleen - I vote for Glendalough too and a future Getting to Know is with Fr. Kevin Doran of St. Kevin’s parish in Glendalough.

  5. I found my way here recently when looking for info on the skatepark opening, but I definitely intend to become a regular reader

  6. Thanks Neil!
