Bray - the town with no religion - Lies, damned lies, and statistics
Via Thatsireland.com comes the news that Bray features in the top ten list of “most Godless Irish towns”. This list is based on the Central Statistics Office figures of respondents who put “no religion” on their census form.
The full list reads as follows:
- 11.1% - Kenmare, County Kerry (1,701 people, 188 of no religion)
- 9.7% - Kinsale, County Cork (3,141 people, 397 of no religion)
- 8.6% - An Daingeann, County Kerry (1,920 people, 166 of no religion)
- 7.8% - Bray, County Wicklow (31,901 people, 2,478 of no religion)
- 7.7% - Maynooth, County Kildare (10,715 people, 824 of no religion)
- 7.6% - Greystones, County Wicklow (14,569 people, 1,111 of no religion)
- 7.0% - Dunmore East, County Waterford (1,547 people, 109 of no religion)
- 6.6% - Annacotty, County Limerick (1,839 people, 122 of no religion)
- 6.5% - Maigh Cuilinn, County Galway (1,237 people, 81 of no religion)
- 6.5% - Skibbereen, County Cork (2,338 people, 153 of no religion)
Nationally, those who stated no religion averaged at 4.4% . Wicklow Town had a 4.9% figure (10,070 people, 500 no religion) and Arklow had a 3.9% figure ( 11,759 people, 463 no religion).
These figures don’t really mean a whole ton, but they make for interesting headlines!

True and chances are that the 2nd generation of Polish in Ireland will probably help the Church with new vocations.
